Verizon 5G EdTech Challenge 100k Grant: Next Steps and Invitation to a special event
NYC Media Lab has partnered with Verizon to develop and produce the 5G EdTech Challenge, a nationwide open call to find innovative, cutting-edge, education technologies that will transform middle school education. You can learn more about it in AxiosEdTech Magazine, and VentureBeat, or watch this video.
Here’s why you should be interested: 
Challenge winners will receive a $100,000 grant to build upon their innovative research and nonprofit missions in a 5G-enabled environment. The challenge aims to support the classroom of the future—one without walls, where learning is boundless. We’re seeking solutions that address these topics: Student Readiness and Engagement, Teacher Training and Personalized Supports.

1.Start the application process here.You’ll be asked to fill out some basic information about your work. Then, NYC Media Lab will be in touch to support you as you continue on with your proposal.

Here’s a few ways 5G technologies can support our missions:
  • We can imagine a hologram teacher, who can beam in to educate on lessons they are experts in.
  • We can leverage 5G-enabled virtual reality to help students with diverse learning needs engage and interact. 
  • We can use high speed virtual capabilities to help our students become global citizens and connect to peers worldwide.
  • We can build support systems for international students who may have faced interrupted learning, to help them get caught up and meet their highest potential.
