In Spring 2018, CAIRN, a tangible apparatus to visualize interactions in the MakerSpace was created as part of a research project led by Anne-Laure Fayard and Victoria Bill and the Design Lab @ NYU Tandon MakerSpace. We learned a ton from this first experiment and this fall decided to experiment further. In this spirit of experimentation and rapid prototyping, we decided to create Intervention Series, a set of three short interactive installations aiming at engaging visitors in the MakerSpace and asking them to become reflective about their practices.
We took several of the assumptions and questions that we built in CAIRN and separated them to create three installations, each asking a specific question on activities, emotions and use of space:
Intervention ⅓: TactileTubes: November 13-15
Intervention ⅔ :You Make Me Feel: November 26-29
Intervention 3/3: Your Totems: December 4-6
Come and check out each of the interventions! They’re fun and won’t take more than a minute of your time. By interacting with them, you’ll help us with our research while making the MakerSpace even more creative and collaborative.
In the meantime, you can follow our progress:
The Interventions Series Team
Jessica Chase, IDM Graduate Student, Design and Production
Anne-Laure Fayard, Associate Professor of Innovation, Design and Organizational Studies, TCS & Joint appointment, TMI, Design and Research
Srishti Kush, Research
Victoria Bill, Research
Excited to see these in the space!
