Welcome to week 3 of our virtual workshops! We hope that you enjoyed last week’s workshops and hope to see you soon at another one this week. These workshops are open to all NYU students, staff, and faculty. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please keep in mind that all workshops will be held virtually this semester. Find out more about the workshops happening this week below!

Our first virtual workshop, EG Series: Intro to Arduino, will take place on September 29th from 12:00 – 2:30 PM. Here, participants will learn about the basics of Arduino such as different projects that you can make with an Arduino Uno Board as well as how to program the board in the Arduino IDE. Participants will also work on a project and make a circuit that simulates a traffic light using Arduinos and LEDs. You can RSVP for the event here!

Our next virtual workshop, Engineering X Design: Wayne Matamoros, will be held on September 30th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. During this workshop, participants will have a chat with Wayne Matamoros, Managing Director of Product and Experience at Unreasonable Group. We will kick off the evening by learning more about Wayne and his journey from working at various design firms to managing director at a major multi-media company. He will share some of his own work and projects and then the audience will have the chance to ask questions.
Engineering X Design is a series of fireside chats with professionals who work at the intersection of design, engineering and technology. Through this informal series, we hope to encourage cross-disciplinary conversations about problem solving and innovation between our guests, NYU Students and outside visitors. To learn more about Wayne Matamoros and Engineering X Design, RSVP for the event here!

The next virtual workshop, Composting at Home, will take place on October 1st from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Here, participants will learn about the process in which waste in NYC is disposed of and the importance of proper waste disposal. You’ll also learn how to create your own compost bin that you can make at home and proper maintenance procedures so that you can begin reducing your own waste. If you’re interested in learning more about waste management, disposal, and composting, RSVP for the event here!

Our final virtual workshop for this week, Intro to Illustrator, will be held on October 2nd from 10:00 – 11:30 AM. In this workshop, students will learn the importance of design software in the industry and fundamental concepts needed to create a design in Illustrator. Participants can expect to learn more about the interface, drawing vector shapes, adding polished typography, and much more! These skills will be implemented and attendees will have the opportunity to design a project of their own using the software. Whether you’re laser cutting, designing graphics, or photo editing, Adobe Illustrator can make achieving complex tasks easier and faster. If you’re interested in learning more about Adobe Illustrator, RSVP for the event here!

More workshops will be posted soon so be sure to look out for those and check out the calendar for a list of upcoming events for September and some of October. We look forward to seeing you at more of our workshops this week! Remember, all workshops hosted by the MakerSpace this semester will be virtual.
