On Monday, April 29th, The Review & Debates will be hosting Professor Vasant Dhar and Professor Kyunghyun Cho in a debate on the Resolved: We are not ready for self-driving cars.
The debate will be held from 6:30 to 8 PM in Kimmel Center Room 808 and will include an opportunity for audience members to participate in a Q&A. Each professor will be supported by a student.
Professor Vasant Dhar, who will be debating for the affirmative, is a professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business and an Artificial Intelligence researcher and data scientist. His research on “when we trust AI systems with decision making” has been motivated by building predictive models in a number of domains. He has written over 100 research articles, funded by grants from industry and government agencies such as the National Science Foundation.
Professor Kyunghyun Cho, who will be debating for the negation, is an assistant professor of computer science and data science at New York University and a research scientist at Facebook AI Research. He was a postdoctoral fellow at University of Montreal until summer 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Yoshua Bengio, and received PhD and MSc degrees from Aalto University early 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Juha Karhunen, Dr. Tapani Raiko and Dr. Alexander Ilin.
