The equipment may only be used by current NYU students, faculty, and staff. Some events that we conduct in the space are be open to the public.

Some of the machines in the MakerSpace require special training. If there is a machine in the MakerSpace that you wish to use but cannot find training videos on our NYU Stream, please email tandon-makerspace@nyu.edu with your intended use of the machine and to schedule a training for the machine. 

The MakerSpace has three different TA stations: the front desk, a table by the Ultimaker 3D printers, and the tools station. If you are coming into the space, you must wait for a TA at the front desk to check you in to maintain a safe user density. After that, you may ask any of the TAs in the MakerSpace for help. 

The MakerSpace is free for all users, but there are some costs for certain materials. The MakerSpace also has areas for scrap material, but we cannot guarantee the quantity or quality of scraps. If you have a project idea, please apply to the Prototyping Fund or Mini Grant!

If you cannot make any of the times available to reserve an in-person check in feel free to reach out to us, but please check the training calendars often as times will change throughout the semester. 

The MakerGarage is an additional workshop space for senior design teams and Vertically Integrated Projects. You can find more information on the MakerGarage here. 

The MakerSpace hours are subject to change, but for the Spring 2024 semester they are:

Monday – Friday: 10AM to 10PM

Saturday & Sunday: 12PM to 6PM

The MakerSpace computers are loaded with a variety of softwares that can be found here. We host several technical workshops each semester, and many of them include introductions to softwares. You can keep a lookout for our upcoming workshops here.

The MakerSpace offers trainings for the machines in the space. Some trainings include an online portion and an in-person check-in. You can find more information about how to complete them here.

We see students work on both personal and class projects in the MakerSpace. If you are looking for inspiration, you can learn more about the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) here and the prototyping fund. If you want to learn more about softwares, you can find the software our computers have here, and keep an eye out for our technical workshops offered here. 

The MakerSpace is open to all NYU students, staff, and faculty. For the Fall 2020 semester, all users coming into the space must first watch the MakerSpace COVID-19 Policies Video. Once completed, you can reserve a workspace, such as a table or a desktop computer.  If you are looking to use a machine, you must first have completed the safety orientation, and then the training for the machine that you wish to use. You can find all of our trainings and reservations here. If you are remote for Fall 2020, you may virtually join our workshops. Keep a lookout for them here.

The MakerSpace is located at 6 Metrotech Center, RM 118, Brooklyn NY inside New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. It is a prototyping lab with equipment and tools available for all NYU students, staff, and faculty only. You can find more information about the machines we have in the space here. Our programming arm, the DeisgnLab, also offers workshops to learn new skills and hosts events with industry leaders and guest speakers.
